This week with our Relieving Principal - Joanna Henderson
Term 1 Week 7
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week, Beau and Walt from 2M came and shared their outstanding work with me in the office. They shared their stories based on one of my favourite Mem Fox books, The Magic Hat . I was so blown away with their work, I awarded them with a very special Principal’s Award Pencil. Keep up the great work, boys - well done!
SAFE ON SOCIAL
Thank you to the P&C for hosting the Safe on Social evening for parents. We had approximately 30 parents that were in attendance. Kirra, the presenter shared the importance of being safe online. The most important thing for parents to do is to ensure they monitor their children’s internet usage, manage the use and access to wifi and ensure there is close communication between parent and child. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and students about the recommended ages for using Social Media apps:
- Facebook: + 13 years old
- Musical.ly: + 12 years old
- KiK: + 12 years old
- Instagram: + 12 years old
- Snapchat: + 12 years old
This week, we will be conducting our evacuation drill for the term. This is to ensure that should an emergency arise, all students and staff are aware of the procedures to follow. We do this calmly and without fuss. Our evacuation assembly point is inside the school grounds. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
THE TELL THEM FROM ME STUDENT FEEDBACK SURVEY
All Stage 2 and Stage 3 students will be offered the opportunity to participate in a survey later this term to seek their feedback on aspects of their school life experience. This survey is commissioned by the Department of Education and more details are available via the link below. All Stage 2 & 3 students will participate unless parents request to exclude them. http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information - for - parents
GOT IT! - GETTING ON TRACK IN TIME
Got It! is a new program supported by the NSW Ministry of Health, and the NSW Department of Education. Banora Point Primary School has been selected to participate in this exciting new program in Terms 2 & 3 in 2017. Got It! aims to provide support and assistance to children and their families, while working alongside the school community to help children get the most out of the opportunities available to them. Challenging and disruptive behaviour often causes difficulties in many areas of a child’s life and can be stressful for them, their family, friends and community. All K - 2 children will be offered social and emotional learning activities delivered by their class teacher. Some children will also be invited to participate in an additional small group component of Got It! facilitated by local NSW Health professionals. An information ‘pop up stall’ will be held in the first week of term 2, with date to be confirmed.
